TotalEnergies Expands Presence in UAE Gas Sector with Bab Gas Cap Concession Stake

Instructions

TotalEnergies has recently finalized an agreement to acquire a 10% share in the Bab Gas Cap Concession, situated in Abu Dhabi. This strategic acquisition is set to bolster the company's footprint in the crucial Middle Eastern energy landscape, working alongside the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), which maintains a 60% operating interest. The collaboration involves several other international entities, collectively aiming to harness the substantial natural gas reserves within the Bab onshore field. This development is not only a significant step for TotalEnergies but also contributes to Abu Dhabi's broader strategy of escalating its gas production capabilities and strengthening its liquefied natural gas (LNG) value chain.

The agreement, formalized on June 24, 2026, marks TotalEnergies' renewed commitment to the region, building on a long-standing partnership with ADNOC that commenced with the 2015 renewal of the Onshore Oil Concession. The Bab Gas Cap Concession, with a projected capacity of 1.5 billion cubic feet per day, is pivotal for developing the extensive gas cap resources. This initiative is designed to increase the emirate's gas output and maximize the recovery of liquids from condensate sources. The Ruwais LNG project, where TotalEnergies also holds a 10% stake, is a key component of this expansive vision, underscoring the integrated approach to energy development in Abu Dhabi.

TotalEnergies, recognized as an integrated energy corporation, is deeply involved in the production and distribution of various energy sources, including natural gas, biogas, oil, and biofuels. The company is also making considerable strides in renewable energy, low-carbon hydrogen, and electricity generation. This latest venture in Abu Dhabi aligns perfectly with its global strategy to diversify its energy portfolio and strengthen its position in key production regions. The partnership structure in the Bab Gas Cap Concession includes other notable stakeholders such as GS Energy, ZhenHua, JODCO/INPEX, CNPC, and BP, reflecting a collaborative international effort to develop this vital energy asset.

This venture underscores TotalEnergies' ongoing efforts to expand its global energy operations. The investment in the Bab Gas Cap Concession is a testament to the company's long-term vision for sustainable growth in the energy sector, supporting both its own strategic objectives and Abu Dhabi's ambitious energy agenda.
