In 2023, Atelier Z+ unveiled two significant public architectural projects, the Clustered Rocks Court (building #3) and the Floating Leaf Pavilion (building #4), strategically situated on the north and south sides of the iconic Huang Lou Bridge in Shanghai. These facilities are positioned along the Huangrigang River, which flows into Dishui Lake, aiming to cater to the increasing demand for recreational and dining experiences for visitors to the picturesque lake area.

Project Details: The Integration of Architecture with Nature in Shanghai's Dishui Lake Area

The Clustered Rocks Court and Floating Leaf Pavilion are not merely structures but integral parts of the Dishui Lake's recreational landscape, designed by Atelier Z+. Both buildings, completed in 2023, are situated strategically near the Huang Lou Bridge, enhancing the visitor experience with their unique blend of architectural design and environmental integration. The Clustered Rocks Court, with a site area of 3,557 square meters and a gross floor area of 1,339 square meters, provides expansive spaces for public interaction. The Floating Leaf Pavilion, covering a site area of 1,730 square meters and a gross floor area of 800 square meters, offers more intimate settings.

These establishments are conceived as essential hubs for public activities, providing diverse food and beverage facilities. Their placement not only offers spectacular views of the lake but also ensures seamless integration with the natural surroundings, making them popular spots for both tourists and locals seeking relaxation and leisure. The projects were undertaken by Atelier Z+, with ZHANG Bin serving as the lead architect, overseeing a talented team including HUANG Ruiqi, CAI Han, YANG Xinyue, HONG Kaiyue, LI Wenying, LIU Xiaoman, XU Yue, LIU Shaoshuai, TAO Yuhang, ZHANG Yunfan, and interns SHI Aiwei, SHAN Zhuyan, LI Mengyao, XU Xinyi, ZENG Gangjun, and ZHANG Lehan. Collaboration on landscape consulting was provided by Shanghai Zhixiu Architectural Planning and Design Co., Ltd, structural consulting by Shanghai Mozheng Architectural Design Co., Ltd, and M&E consulting by Shanghai Zhisheng Architectural Decoration Design Co., Ltd. Lighting expertise was contributed by the Lighting Engineering Institute of Shanghai Tongji Architectural Interior Design Engineering Co.,Ltd. The client for these developments was Shanghai Harbour City Development (Group) Co., Ltd.
